The Parade Square is the active center of the Halifax Citadel.

This large central courtyard is where soldiers lived, trained, and worked in the 19th century. Today, costumed interpreters representing the 78th Highland Regiment and the 3rd Brigade Royal Artillery march and perform drills across the gravel.

Surrounding the square are restored buildings that offer a look into the Victorian-era military lifestyle. You will find sleeping quarters, tailoring rooms, and a comprehensive museum covering later military history.

Guard Room & Main Gate

10 minsSentry change

This is the primary entry point to the fort, where sentries stood watch over the perimeter. The guard room managed the flow of soldiers and supplies. This spot is the best place to watch the regular sentry changes performed by the 78th Highlanders.
